Mermaid’s tale revisited

Mermaid tracing from original drawing abt 1995

“I have seen them riding seaward on the waves
Combing the white hair of the waves blown back
When the wind blows the water white and black.
We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown
Till human voices wake us, and we drown.”

If there was a parallel universe in which mer-creatures and cephalopods enjoyed each others company then I would love to travel there and be part of it (which is odd for someone who doesn’t feel comfortable in the ocean). Meanwhile I have to make do with my imagination, poetry and the odd tentacle toy…

I was going through some old photos and found a picture of an artwork I painted on the bathroom floor of a house I was renting some 20+ years ago. Unfortunately this is the only shot I have so her face is a bit distorted, and there is a stain in the lower right hand corner. The fish running through her fingers reminded me that this was yet another of my interpretations of Cream’s song Tales of Brave Ulysses; some things endure in our erotic imagination. However looking through some old files the other day I found a tracing I did of my original drawing (no idea where that is), so I thought I’d share it with you as some folks were interested,

Sinful Sunday
